e-Learning and its Advantages
e-Learning is defined in variety of ways. Some of
them are mentioned below.
- e-Learning is the acquisition and use of knowledge
distributed and facilitated primarily by electronic
means. This form of learning currently depends on
networks and computers but will likely evolve into
systems consisting variety of channels (e.g., wireless,
satellite), and technologies (e.g., cellular phones,
PDA's) as they are developed and adopted. e-Learning
can take the form of courses as well as of modules
and smaller learning objects. e-Learning may incorporate
synchronous or asynchronous access and may be distributed
geographically with varied limits of time.
- e-Learning can be considered as innovative approach
to "Distance Learning" and is a media
rich learning, capable of simulating the classroom
environment. Therefore, it is an ideal vehicle for
delivering training to individuals, located at any
place and at any time.
- e-Learning is the use of networking technology
to design, deliver, select, administrator and extend
learning. e-Learning is internet enable learning.
Components include content delivery in multiple
formats, management of the learning experience and
a networked community of learners, content developers
and experts. e-Learning provides faster learning
at reduced costs, increased access to learning and
clear accountability for all participants in the
learning process. In today's fast paced culture
organizations that implement e-Learning provide
their workforce with the ability to turn change
into an advantage.
